IMPORTANT NOTICE National EAS Test November 9 – Please Advise Your Constituents We wanted to be certain you were aware of the National Test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on November 9, and ask for your help in communicating this important news item to your constituents. The National level EAS is a public alert and warning system that enables the President to address the American public during extreme emergencies. The test, conducted by FEMA, the FCC and NOAA, is the first nationwide test of the system, and will air at 2PM Eastern Time on November 9, and will last approximately three and a half minutes. The message will interrupt programming on broadcast radio &, television, as well as cable and satellite TV and Radio services across all states. Local broadcasters are airing public service messages this week to advise the public of the upcoming test to avoid public concern or panic during the test. The audio message will indicate “this is only a test”. However, the video message could appear as an actual alert (particularly for viewers of cable television). Please use your communication networks (listserv, e-newsletters, social media messaging, website postings, etc.) to help educate the citizens of South Carolina about next week’s National EAS Test.
