The Cypress Police Department recently held a competitive testing process for the position of Police Lieutenant. After a lengthy process with candidates from across the state, Sergeant Steven Ramsey, a twenty-three (23) year member of the department, was promoted to Lieutenant.

Lieutenant Steven Ramsey began his career with the Cypress Police Department as a Police Officer-Trainee on October 13, 1988, and was promoted one month later to the position of Police Officer. On July 11, 1997, he advanced to the position of Corporal, and after participating in a competitive examination process, he was promoted to Police Sergeant on July 21, 2000.

Lieutenant Ramsey has attained his Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and Supervisory P.O.S.T. certificates. He possesses a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Long Beach, and has successfully completed the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute course, Class 211. He was awarded the 2002 Officer of the Year by the Cypress Police Officers’ Association.

As the Operations Division Commander’s Adjutant, Steve was instrumental in reconfiguring the Department’s patrol beat deployment and team patrol schedule. He has received letters of commendation from the Chief for his efforts with patrol scheduling and for briefly serving as the acting Police Lieutenant.

During his tenure, Steve has served as a motor officer, was a member of the Adopt-a-Cop program at Vessel’s elementary school, supervised the Detective Bureau, has served as the Watch Commander, and his most recent assignment was supervising the Traffic Unit.

Lieutenant Ramsey will serve as the Administration Division Commander and will oversee the Records Bureau to include the Property and Evidence Unit, Community Services, and the Personnel and Training Unit. Management of the Department’s budget will also fall under his responsibilities.
