Weekly Health Tip: Assess Your Sleep Habits
Do you find yourself waking up tired every morning? Perhaps it’s time to assess your sleep habits. Take a look at the following points to make sure that you’re not sabotaging a good night’s sleep:
1) When possible, go to bed at the same time each night and rise at the same time each morning.
2) Try to sleep in a dark, quiet environment that is neither too hot nor too cold.
3) Make your bed comfortable.
4) Use the bed only for sleeping and not for other activities such as reading, watching TV, or using the computer.
5) Avoid physical activity within a few hours of bedtime.
6) Avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol within a few hours of bedtime.
7) Avoid large meals and lots of liquids before bedtime.
8) Allow enough time for sleeping each night so that you wake up feeling refreshed.
Admittedly, it may be difficult to make all of these changes, but even making one or two adjustments can have a positive impact on your sleep.
