Deputy-Involved Shooting in East Valinda Saturday night. No one hit. Suspect Arrested.
Investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Internal Affairs Bureau are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a deputy involved, Non- Hit shooting, which occurred Saturday night.
Detectives have learned that at 11:30PM a deputy assigned to one-deputy patrol car at Industry Sheriff's Station, attempted to detain a male Hispanic adult who was walking down the street and believed to be carrying stolen property.
The deputy attempted to contact the suspect on the 600 block of La Seda Road in East Valinda to conduct a possible burglary investigation, when the suspect ran from the deputy and into a mobile home park.
The deputy followed the suspect in his patrol vehicle. At one point, the suspect turned toward the deputy and pointed a gun at him. Fearing for his safety, the deputy fired one round at the suspect, missing him.
A containment was established (the area was surrounded by assisting sheriff's deputies) and several requests were made for the suspect to surrender.
The suspect refused to surrended and was later found hiding within the contained area by a Sheriff's K-9 and deputy handler. The suspect sustained a dog bite and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A handgun was recovered at the scene. No deputies were injured.
