Ingham County designated as a "StormReady County" by the National Weather Service.
On December 13, 2011 at a meeting of the Ingham County Board of Commisioners, National Weather Service (NWS) representatives presented a certificate to the Board and Ingham County Emergency Manager, Sergeant Robert Ott designating Ingham County as "StormReady".
Ingham County becomes one of (14) counties, (10) communities, (5) universities, (5) commercial sites, (5) state parks and (1) military sites in the State of Michigan to receive the designation.
The "StormReady" program recognizes the County's commitment to keeping the residents and visitors aware of impending severe weather and taking steps to mitigate the effects of extreme weather events. The deignation also recognizes the work of the Ingham County Sheriff's, Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management in it's progressive efforts to make the community more aware of severe weather through projects, education and training.
" StormReady also helps establish a commitment to creating an infrastructure and systems that will save lives and protect property. Receiving StormReady recognition does not mean that a community is storm proof, but StormReady communities will be better prepared when severe weather strikes."
