Shortly after 3:30 Friday, December 16, 2011, deputies from Industry Sheriff's Station initiated a traffic stop in the vicinity of South 7th Avenue and Valley Boulevard, City of Industry.

When the vehicle stopped at a gas station in the 14500 block of Valley Boulevard, City of Industry, the front passenger immediately ran from the car.

A deputy gave chase and saw the suspect was armed with a semi-automatic handgun. Fearing for his life the deputy fired his duty weapon at the suspect, wounding him. The suspect, a 29-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

The suspect's weapon, a replica semi-automatic handgun, was recovered at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested for a warrant and booked at Industry Station.

No deputies were injured.

Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives are en route to the intersection of 7th Avenue and Valley Boulevard, City Of Industry, to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy involved shooting.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital for treatment. No deputies were injured.

There is no further information available at this time.
