First Arrest under the Organized Retail Theft Initiative
The Dallas Police Department has made its first arrest under the “Organized Retail Theft Initiative” introduced by Mayor Mike Rawlings and Chief David Brown at a December 5, 2011 press conference. Salvador Martinez Duarte L/M/8-3-1973 was arrested on December 23, 2011, and charged with Organized Retail Theft, which is a 3rd Degree Felony punishable by 2-10 years in prison and a fine not to exceed $10,000.
In mid October 2011, detectives learned of a fencing operation located in the 6100 block of Symphony Lane. Partnering with local retail stores such as Target for support, detectives began to develop a case against Duarte. On December 23, 2011, Mr. Duarte was arrested and a search warrant served at the location on Symphony Lane. Over $13,000 of retail merchandise was recovered at the location.
The Dallas Police Department is working with the Dallas County District Attorney’s office in the prosecution phase of the operation.
