The local weather centers are forecasting freezing temperatures on the Island tonight and tomorrow night for more than 6 hours. Take precautionary measures to protect your water pipes. Insulate back flow devices and any other exposed water pipes. Letting your cold water faucets run before you go to bed will keep the water moving through your pipes. This will prevent it from freezing and bursting. Drain outside spigots and hoses. Know where to shut the water off in case of a leak. Every water meter has a customer shut off valve next to the meter box. It has a green plastic lid and inside is your water shut off valve. You should also have a valve just inside or outside the foundation of your home or business.
