Utah Drug Raid Shooting: One Police Officer Killed, 5 More Shot
OGDEN -- One of six police officers shot while serving a search warrant at an Ogden home Wednesday night has died of his injuries.
Ogden police identify him as Agent Jared Francom. In a news release police say he has "served the citizens of Ogden City with honor for seven years." He is survived by his wife and two young children.
Five other police officers from multiple agencies remain hospitalized with serious to critical injuries.
The suspect remains at a local hospital under guard, in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect's name has not been released.
The shooting took place at 3268 Jackson Ave. at 8:40 p.m.
Nearby witnesses say they heard three quick pops followed by a two to three minute pause, then lots of gunfire.
Neighbor Clayton Payne said, "About three minutes later we heard rounds of AK47. Then I ran out here to see what was going on and I was escorted back to my house by the cops. They said, ‘Get in your house. Get down.'"
Payne says he could see members of the Weber Morgan Narcotics Strike Force moving into his neighbor's backyard.
"We came running outside to see what was going on," said another neighbor, Janessa Vanderstappen. "Officers told us to go back in our house."
Vanderstappen said she went back inside, and minutes later heard yelling coming from the backyard. She said she walked onto the back porch to see officers addressing a person hiding in a nearby shed.
"There's cops telling him to 'put your hands up, put your hands up,'" she said
