CRIME TREND: Vehicle Burglaries

Need a New Year's Resolution? Got 1 for you....

Help us reduce some staggering statistics:

In Texas, a vehicle is burglarized every 2 1/2 minutes and a vehicle is stolen every 5 minutes.

How can I HELP?

The best way to keep thieves from stealing valuables from your car is to make it less attractive. We are not saying drive a dirty, unkept car but rather "keep your vehicle as if just rolled off the factory floor -nothing inside except the parts comprise it".

Calling ALL cars....

We need everyone to help reduce these opportunities and be more aware of suspicious persons - "if you see something say something". Notify the police when someone appears nervous and is "window shopping" or pulling on car door handles. There is even a phone app to do so. Go to http://www.iwatchgrapevine.com/

• Lock your car. Almost half of all vehicles stolen were left unlocked.
• Take your keys. 20% of stolen vehicles - keys were left in vehicle.
• Hide your valuables. Affords thieves convenient shopping.
• Park in well-lit or congested areas. Thieves do not like witnesses.
• Never leave your car running unattended. Provides thieves an easy getaway.
