LASD Marina Del Rey Marine Operations gets grant to address abandoned vessels
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Marina del Rey Station Marine Operations, has been granted $17,000 from the California Department of Boating and Waterways for the Vessel Turn In Program (VTIP). The Department of Boating and Waterways (DBW) has implemented this program to address the problem of abandoned vessels on California’s waterways. The purpose of the program is to allow vessel owners who are struggling with keeping their vessels due to age of the boat, its constant up-keep, and economic hardship to receive relief. Any boat owner wishing to surrender their vessel, may contact the MDR Sheriff’s Marine Operations at 310-482-6031 to make an appointment. Owners will be required to provide proof of ownership of the vessel, and complete a release of interest form. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will continue this program until all allocated grant funds have been expended.
