WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO MIDNIGHT MST SATURDAY NIGHT

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN POCATELLO HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW ALONG WITH BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW - WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO MIDNIGHT MST SATURDAY NIGHT. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* TIMING - SNOW - HEAVY AT TIMES - WILL DEVELOP ACROSS THE EASTERN MOUNTAINS TONIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING.

* SNOW AMOUNTS - STORM TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 12 TO 20 INCHES ABOVE 6000 FEET MSL AND UP TO 8 INCHES BELOW 6000 FEET MSL.

* IMPACTS - SLICK ROADS ALONG WITH BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW ARE LIKELY. ROAD CLOSURES ARE POSSIBLE. DANGEROUS CONDITIONS ARE ALSO LIKELY IN BACKCOUNTRY AREAS. STRONG WIND COULD CAUSE WIND LOADING AND AVALANCHES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS -

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL - KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT - FOOD - AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY
