Sheriff's Patrol Cars Burglarized, Suspect Tracked by Bloodhound, Turns Self In last Sunday

A 27-year old South Los Angeles man was arrested after burglarizing two sheriff's patrol cars and closed Lennox Sheriff's Station at about 3AM, Sunday, Jan. 25, 2012. A bloodhound was deployed by the Sheriff's Department during the search for the suspect, who ultimately turned himself at Inglewood Police Station.

Deputies learned Sunday that when the suspect broke into the closed Lennox Station building on Lennox Blvd., he had stolen an old vase, and used it to break into the patrol cars of the Sheriff's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Bureau. Blood from the suspect injuring himself was found on the vandalized patrol cars.

Deputies called in the bloodhound and handler and a team of Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies worked with "Alaska" the bloodhound as the dog followed the suspect's scent for over 1 1/2 hours.

Apparently, learning of the search, Suspect Luis Angel Palacio turned himself in at Inglewood Police Station and implicated himself in the crimes. Inglewood Police Department officers recovered a Sheriff’s Department ballistic vest and other items from a sidewalk on the 3100 block of West 108th Street. The recovered items had been stolen from a patrol car that was parked behind the closed Lennox Sheriff’s Station.

Suspect Palacio was booked at South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station for burglary and vandalism charges as well as a warrant for Driving Under the Influence. Suspect Palacio's next court appearance is in Inglewood Court on February 27, 2012.
