Storm Grate Thefts in West End of Wrentham.
The Wrentham Police are currently investigating the theft of more than 15 storm grates from the roads of West Wrentham.
The DPW is scrambling to keep up with the recent rash of thefts of catch basin grates. Most of these thefts are taking place in the west end in areas where it is difficult for neighbors to see. Whoever is stealing them does have half a conscience though, they are sometimes covering the hole with plywood.
The theives have targeted Oakhill Ave., Hales Pond, Autimn Rd., Comstock, Miscoe Brook and Ballou Dr.
Please keep an eye out for vehicles removing these storm drain covers. They are heavy and theives could be using some type of small crane or lift attached to a truck. Several people could also likely remove these covers. Due to the current economic times, some people have taken to "scrapping" discarded metal products and taking them to recycling centers for money. This can be fairly lucrative as they are paid by total weight.
Suspect vehicles could be pickup style trucks with metal 'junk' in the bed.
