This press release is to serve as an update to two prior cases.

On December 24, 2011, Timothy Shawn Ross, 52 years, of Hanover, was killed in a single vehicle accident on Benton Road at South Stoney Lake Road. At the time of the initial investigation, it was believed that alcohol was a primary factor. The blood test has revealed that the victim’s blood-alcohol level was .229%.

In a separate case, Columbia Township Police previously reported on the arrest of Michael Dennis Armstrong, 52 years, for a burglary of a residence on Monroe Street in Brooklyn on March 20, 2011. In that burglary, the elderly resident awoke at 1:27 A.M. to find a male subject had broken a window to gain entry to her residence, and was standing in her bedroom after having ransacked the residence. The investigation led Columbia Township Police to arrest Michael Armstrong at approximately 10:30 A.M. on the morning of the burglary, at the Wesco in Brooklyn. He was lodged at the County Jail, and ultimately charged with home invasion.

Since that time, Armstrong has been to court on several occasions, and has also been sent for evaluation twice relative to his competency to stand trial, and assist with his own defense. On Friday, January 20, 2012, the home invasion charges were dismissed against Armstrong, without prejudice, based on his inability to comprehend the charges and assist with his defense. Armstrong was ordered by the court to have further treatment relative to his competency and ability to care for himself, and he was then transported to Allegiance Hospital. The charges being dismissed “without prejudice” allows that the charges could be brought again at a later time.
