Giles County Sheriff's Department has an important message for the community!
Last night a fraudulent text message was sent to citizens, telling them their account was deactivated. The message reads as follows:
EMPLOYEE RESOURCES C.U. Alert: your CARD starting with 4522 had been DEACTIVATED. Please contact us at 931-201-4233.
Citizens should know that the Credit Union, nor any financial institution, would ask for confidential, personal information through a text message. Members should always verify any kind of request for personal and confidential information by contacting the financial institution via a published or known number.
There are all types of scams trying to get your personal banking and credit card information. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THIS INFORMATION TO ANYONE YOU DO NOT KNOW AND DID NOT CALL YOURSELF ON A VERIFIED NUMBER.
If you are one of the several people who called the number and gave your banking or credit card information. You should immediately contact your banking institution and cancel the account or cards and have new ones issued. Tell them you have been scammed.
