MPD & ITD Safety Belt Use Mobilization Feb 7th thru Feb 20th

The Montpelier Police Department will team with the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and participate in a statewide mobilization for safety belt use beginning February 7th through the 20th. Seat belts are a proven method to reduce injury and prevent death in vehicle crashes. Local traffic surveys show nearly 70% of Montpelier drivers do not wear safety belts. Our goal is to reduce motor vehicle related deaths and serious injuries by increasing the use of safety restraints. The ITD emphasis patrol requires zero tolerance for not wearing the seat belt and citations will be issued. Idaho law requires occupants of a motor vehicle to wear a safety belt. This includes passengers. Younger children are required to be in a proper safety seat. It is a good habit to wear your safety belt to protect yourself and passengers in vehicles. We ask for your cooperation and compliance with this state law. Thank you.
