The Lubbock Police Department is currently investigating a case involving exploitation of an elderly individual.
The LPD has received a report in which three men operating a tree trimming service came to the door of an elderly female in Lubbock and solicited to maintenance her trees. By use of intimidation the men convinced the elderly victim to turn over several thousand dollars for the tree service and as a “loan”. The victim, due to her age and frailty, was afraid to refuse the men. The LPD has received reports that the same subjects have possibly been operating in Midland and Amarillo using the same tactics.
The Lubbock Police Department is asking anyone who believes they may have been a victim of this type of exploitation to make a report by calling the LPD front desk at 775-2816 or by filing the report on-line at www.lubbockpolice.com.
The LPD reminds citizens to exercise caution when dealing with door to door solicitors. Lubbock City Ordinance requires anyone offering services door to door to obtain a permit from the City if they are not part of an established local business. They are required to carry the permit which includes a photo I.D.
Citizens are encouraged to contact police if they believe a solicitor’s activity is suspicious.
