Stealing from Motor Vehicles

During the overnight hours of 02-17-2012 approximately 11 vehicles were entered by subject(s) and the contents strewn about the interior cabins. This occurred in the 13000 block of Winding Trails, 11900 block of Whitehorse Creek Lane, and the 12800 block of Whitehorse Lane. Most of the vehicles were reported as being unlocked during the time of occurrence by their owners.

While investigating this incident Officers were given a description of possible suspect(s) by one of the victims. The suspects are described as two white males, unknown age, wearing hooded sweatshirts (one of them white). An area canvass was preformed including the use of a neighboring canine patrol unit. This canvass turned up no suspect(s). Items reported missing from the vehicles include: a wallet, several CD’s, sun glasses, and miscellaneous U.S. Currency. The investigation into these incidents continues at this time. Anyone with information relevant to these cases is urged to contact the Des Peres Police Detective Bureau at (314) 835-6200.

Please remember that many crimes committed in our society today are that of convenience. An unlocked vehicle presents itself as an easy target to thieves. When suspects “work” a street or parking lot they will often check vehicle door handles. If they encounter a locked vehicle they will quickly move on to the next. Unlocked vehicles provide faster and easier entry as no force is needed and no loud noise is created. This enables them to keep checking with little interruption or notice by the surrounding public.

All of this being said the Des Peres Department of Public Safety would like to remind everyone to secure their vehicle and residential doors prior to leaving them unattended.
