The LAPD is investigating the circumstances that lead to a stabbing death in the playground of Normandie Park. On Wednesday, February 21, 2012, at approximately 2:00 PM, a stabbing occurred at 15th Street and Normandie Avenue. The location of the crime was the sandy playground area on the west perimeter of Normandie Park. The suspect and the victim became engaged in a fistfight. As the fight progressed, the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times on the upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he expired from his injuries. The suspect fled the park and was captured shortly after hiding in a yard two blocks away.
Both the suspect and victim were male Hispanics in their 20's. Detectives are not releasing the names of the suspect or the victims until next of kin are notified.
