Be Aware of Scams
Recently we had a residential burglary involving two men posing as Gas Co. employees.
Suspect #1: Male Hispanic in late 30's, 5'4" to 5'6", thin build, thick mustache, wearing a black hardhat with yellow stripes and black jacket with yellow stripes
Suspect #2: Unknown
One of the men knocked on the victim's front door stating he was an employee of The Gas Co. looking for a gas leak in the neighborhood. He asked the victim to show him the gas meter in the backyard. The victim closed the front door and went to the backyard unlocking the gate for him. The victim and suspect walked around the backyard. The victim stated the suspect had a device she thought was to measure gas in the air. After a few minutes the suspect stated he did not detect any gas in the air and left the area.
Once the victim entered her residence she noticed an item had been moved and several other items out of place. The victim walked out of her residence and went to a neighbor's house to call the police.
The victim surmises that while she and the suspect were in the backyard his accomplice entered the residence and stole the victim's jewelry in a matter of minutes.
Similar crimes have occurred involving roof inspections, contaminated water and water leaks. Elderly victims are often the target of these ruses. Con artists are slick, so keep your guard up. Be skeptical, and before letting anyone on your property ask for proper identification from strangers. If they can't show you proper identification, call the company they work for or the police. Companies require their employees to carry ID.
