Columbia Township Police Department investigating bomb threat at Columbia Schools.
On Wednesday morning, March 7, 2012, the Columbia Township Police Department responded to Columbia Middle School in Brooklyn after a note was found that is being treated as a bomb threat. The note itself is actually a drawing, which appears to be from a child. The word “bomb” is written out, with a rough drawing intended to depict the schools, with a date of Friday afternoon, March 9th.
Although the note that was found was very rudimentary and obviously drawn by a child, precautions have been taken to assure the safety of the students. In addition to having interviewed several students, the “Instant Alert” system was utilized by the school to send a message across the school district. Additionally, arrangements have been made for enhanced security, as well as a search by canine units.
With school violence incidents being an all-too-regular occurrence, each incident such as this has to be treated as if it is a potentially real threat, until it can be proven otherwise, even though all indications may point toward it being a simple prank.
We are erring on the side of caution, and the investigation is ongoing.
Any student or other person with information on the author of the note is asked to contact the Columbia Township Police Department at 517-592-3122.
