UPDATE > Man arrested in hit-and-run that injured homeless woman

March 4, 2012@0230 hrs Towne Avenue / 5th Street
(RD 0148) Serious injury hit and run traffic collision.
V-1 southbound Towne Avenue intentionally ran off the roadway in an attempt to collide with another pedestrain and in the prossess collided with a pedestrian (51 year old, Christina Silver) who was asleep in her tent on the West sidewalk. P-1 then backed up on the sidewalk and the pulled into the street fleeing southbound on Towne Avenue failing to identifiy himself or render aid to Silver in violation of 20001(a) VC. Silver sustained a blunt force trauma injury and was transported to the University of Southern California Medical Center where she remained in stable condition. V-1 is described as a gray 1998 - 2009 Pontiac Grand-Prix or Grand Am. P-1 is described as a male white in his early 30's. V-1 is also missing a side window that was shattered at the scene of the collision.

UPDATE > A man has been arrested in a hit-and-accident that seriously injured a 50-year-old woman as she slept in her tent on a skid row sidewalk, Los Angeles police officials said Wednesday.

Arturo Betanzos of Los Angeles was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run after allegedly running into the woman with his car March 4 about 2:15 a.m. on Towne Avenue between Fourth and Fifth streets, according to LAPD officials.

The 50-year-old victim, identified as Christina Silver, sustained serious injuries, but is expected to recover.

Betanzos was driving a black 1997 Pontiac Grand Am. LAPD investigators said that Betanzos failed to "stop and render aid to the victim and identify himself as required by law."

Betanzos was taken into custody in the 2800 block of Avenue 33 in Los Angeles. He is being held on $50,000 bail. (LA NOW So. Cal)
