Fruitport Township Police Department responded to multiple car crashes this morning due to icy road conditions in the area.
A Fruitport Township Police cruiser was struck from behind by another vehicle when clearing from the scene of a crash on I-96 near the Airline exit (4 mile marker).
The officer involved received minor injuries that did not require immediate medical treatment. The other driver was transported from the scene to a local hospital by ProMed Ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash was investigated by the Michigan State Police. It is standard procedure to have an outside law enforcement agency investigate crashes involving police officers.
Road conditions have been improving, but drivers are encouraged to drive cautiously.
