Michael Eugene Hurley, 65, of Friendswood, Texas passed away suddenly Saturday morning, March 17, 2012 at his home and will be deeply missed by all. He was born November 22, 1946 in Oakland, California the son of Miles Eugene and Billie Elizabeth (McLean) Hurley. Mike is a graduate of San Jacinto College with an AA Degree in Criminal Justice and of Midwestern State University with a BAAS Degree in Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the Houston Police Department Class #34 and retired from HPD in 1987 as a Detective/Sergeant after 20 years of service. Mike was currently an adjunct professor at San Jacinto College in criminal justice. He was a youth soccer coach for 22 years in the Bay Area. Captain Mike Hurley was currently commanding the Patrol Division for the Friendswood Police Department and has served with the Friendswood Police Department for 17 years. In addition to being a very dedicated police officer, Mike Hurley was a very dedicated member of Mary Queen Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus Mary Queen Council #8494.
He was the Owner of Precocious Penny, track record holder at Woodbine Race Park; Life member of the Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors; Life member of the Houston Police Officers Association; Houston Police Retired Officers Association; and Member of the Texas Community College Teachers Association.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, sister, father-in-law, and brother-in-law.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Elma Hurley; daughter, Kelley Lyn Seals; sons, Brian Miles Hurley and wife Rana and Sean Michael Hurley; sister, Jill Eileen Hurley; brother, Patrick Steven Hurley; six grandchildren; his family at the Friendswood Police Department and Mary Queen Catholic Church; and many, many dear friends.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with Mike's family on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas 77546, (281) 992-7200. The Vigil will be held on Thursday evening at 7:30 P.M with Rev. Benny Thadathilkunnel, M.S. officiating followed by the Rosary led by the Knights of Columbus Mary Queen Council # 8494.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 23, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood, Friendswood, Texas 77546 with Rev. Phil “Skip” Negley, M.S. presiding and Rev. Benny Thadathilkunnel, M.S. con-celebrating. Burial will follow at Grand View Cemetery in Pasadena, Texas.
