Advisory

The Columbia Township Police Department has recently obtained a warrant in relation to a larceny investigation.

The Columbia Township Police Department has recently obtained a warrant in relation to the investigation of a series of three larcenies of purses from vehicles in the Village of Brooklyn. The warrant for breaking and entering a vehicle is related to the most recent larceny, on March 6th, 2012, at the Wesco in Brooklyn.

On March 6th, 2012, Officer Rick Rodden of the Columbia Township Police Department was dispatched to Wesco at 10409 N. Main St. following a victim reporting the theft of her purse from her vehicle, which was parked in front of the building. Video was obtained, and several witnesses were eventually located that had either seen the larceny occur, or had observed the suspect, one of which had confronted the suspect.

The purse stolen from the vehicle was recovered at Swain’s park shortly after the larceny.

The report was forwarded to the Jackson County Prosecuting attorney’s office, and on Tuesday, March 20th, 2012, a warrant was issued for David L. Farmer, Jr., 21, of Brooklyn, for breaking and entering a vehicle to steal property less than $200.00 dollars. On March 25th, 2012 Farmer was arrested by Chris Desnoyer of the Napoleon Township Police Department subsequent to a traffic stop near Buddy’s in Napoleon.

Farmer was arraigned on March 26th, 2012, and bond was set at $3500.00.

The two prior and similar larcenies from vehicles that also occurred in Brooklyn over the last approximately 30 days are still under review, and are believed to be related to the same suspect.

Anyone with information as it relates to the remaining unsolved larcenies is asked to contact the Columbia Township Police Department at 517-592-3122.
