Community Advisory and Information.
The Newton Police Department is once again advising the community to remove all valuables from your vehicle and to lock your doors before leaving it.
When valuables or items of interest are left in a vehicle, that vehicle becomes a prime target to be broken into. The first thing a suspect will do upon seeing valuables is to try and open the doors. If the doors were left unlocked, you just made his “catch” easier. If the doors were locked, then the suspect may break a window to steal your property.
So, our advice is simple: “Remove all items you don’t want stolen from your vehicle!”
The Newton Police Department and the Mayor’s Crime Prevention Commission are available to assist residents with further questions on keeping their home and vehicles safe from break-ins. If you would like to schedule a meeting with representatives from the Police, Crime Prevention Commission and Mayor’s Office to discuss ways to protect yourself and your property, ways to stay in touch with the Police Department, and the possibility of creating a neighborhood Crime Watch group, please contact Aaron Goldman at [email protected].
