Fruitport Township Police - Heroin Arrest
Fruitport Township Police Department responded to the Speedway gas station at approximately 11:30 PM on Saturday, 03/31/2012, regarding a suspicious vehicle complaint.
Upon arrival, officers were directed to a vehicle in the parking lot. A witness described observing a male subject exit the business and enter the vehicle. The witness described the subject as appearing intoxicated or disoriented.
Officers made contact with the subject who was in the driver's seat of vehicle, which was running. Officers observed the subject had his shirt sleeve pulled up and had a belt around his arm. A syringe was sticking out of the subject's arm.
Subsequent investigation and field testing indicated the subject had been using heroin.
The subject was arrested and lodged at the Muskegon County Jail. His name is not being released at this time.
This arrest follows two recent incidents - one in February and one in March - in which police, fire, and medical units responded to the same residence in Fruitport Township for a drug overdose situation. In both situations, the same adult male subject is believed to have overdosed on heroin. In both situations, his mother discovered him and had to provide CPR because he had stopped breathing and had no pulse.
No further information is being released at this time.
Members of the community are encouraged to report suspected drug acitivity to police. Anonymous tips can be reported to Silent Observer at (231) 72-CRIME.
