Registration is now underway for the second annual Public Safety Academy held by the Gainesville police and fire departments.
Registration is underway now for the second annual Public Safety Academy featuring a behind the scenes look at the Gainesville Police and Fire Departments. The ten-week program, designed to familiarize citizens with all areas of law enforcement and fire operations, will include classes on crime prevention, gangs and narcotics and fire safety. Students will also participate in a police patrol ride along and suit up in 50 pounds of fire gear. The course is taught by law enforcement officers and firemen who serve in the field every day.
The Gainesville Police Department typically hosts the Citizens’ Police Academy each summer, but decided to partner with the Fire Department again this year due to the large success of last year’s program. Both agencies have new state-of-the-art facilities located on the same property and can accommodate a larger group of interested citizens.
Enrollment is open to all residents of Gainesville and Hall County who are 21 years or older, register early as class size is limited to 25 students. Every applicant shall be subject to a criminal history background check and must have a clear criminal history (exceptions are minor traffic offenses).
Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 6:30 – 9:00 pm May 29-August 7. The registration deadline is May 11, 2012.
Registration forms are available on-line at www.gainesville.org or by calling Corporals Kevin Holbrook or Joe Britte at (770)-287-0893.
