Alert

Diversionary Theft

Dear Lyndhurst Resident:

Recently, an elderly resident of our community answered her front door after an unknown man rang her doorbell. The man claimed to be from the water department and needed to check the water pressure in her home. The unsuspecting woman welcomed the man into her home. At that point, he requested to see the kitchen and bathroom. Shortly thereafter, he left the home stating he needed some equipment. The man never returned and the woman later discovered a large sum of cash missing from her bedroom. This type of crime is all too common against the elderly. Although the victim was smart enough to keep the man in her site at all times, a second person entered the home without her knowledge to commit the theft.

Remember, please contact the police department before letting anyone you don’t know inside your home (201-939-2900 then select prompt #1).
