On Monday, April 30, 2012 at approximately 11:30 am, OFC Kemp was dispatched to the Woodsboro Bank on Frederick Rd. in Thurmont for a fraud complaint. OFC Kemp was advised that a subject had attempted to pass a counterfeit check and had just left the bank. OFC Kemp located the subject at the intersection of Tippin Drive and Frederick Road. The suspect was identified as: Michael R. Hicks, age 51, of Baltimore, Md. Further investigation revealed the Mr. Hicks had attempted to cash a check issued by Trout’s Market and drawn on Woodsboro Bank. Even though the check was a close replica, it was determined to be a counterfeit document. Mr. Hicks was arrested and charged with: 2 counts of “Forgery”, and 1 charge of “Issue a Counterfeit Document.” Mr. Hicks was released on Personal Recognizance at his initial hearing.
