The Cleona Police remind residents that it is unlawful to throw your grass clippings out into a Borough Street.
With the warm weather and rain residents are busy with maintaining their yards including mowing the grass. The Cleona Borough Police would like to remind residents that it is unlawful to throw your grass clippings out into a Borough Street according to the Collection and Disposal of Refuse Ordinance.
Under the ordinance definitions rubbish includes but is not limited to leaves, branches, trees, sawdust, chips, shavings, wood, grass, straw, manure and all solid combustible matter not included in the definition of "garbage."
The ordinance prohibits any person to deposit, dump, spill, throw, place or bury or permit another to deposit, dump, spill, throw, place or bury in or upon any parcel of land, lot, street, highway, gutter or in any alley or in any water or stream, or in any quarry or ditch within the limits of the Borough of Cleona any ashes, garbage, rubbish and other refuse materials.
When you are finished mowing please clean up the clippings that are thrown out into the street and off your sidewalks so that it does not pose a safety risk to pedestrians. For residents that contract out their mowing to a landscape service or other person, the residents is responsible for notifying them of the ordinance.
Each year the Borough Staff must clear out clogged storm-sewer grates that are clogged with plant material and grass clippings that are washed down the street by heavy rains.
