Sheriff Helton reminds everyone to be vigilant about taking calls and not to be giving personal information on the phone as there are many scams in the area. The Sheriffs’ Department continues to receive calls from citizens that have fell victim to these types of scams. The Sheriff’s Department usually has no jurisdiction in these cases as they usually originate overseas and the victim bears all of the loss. The Better Business Bureau assists individuals identifying companies as reputable or not if they are called.
