At approximately 3:00 PM on 05/22/2012, Fruitport Township Police and Fire responded to a crash with injuries on westbound I-96 near Airline.
The crash took place following multiple calls to Muskegon County Central Dispatch regarding a vehicle travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Initial calls, approximately 2-3 minutes prior to the first call regarding impact, indicated the wrong-way driver was near I-96 and Sternberg. The eastbound vehicle and a westbound vehicle collided near I-96 and Airline.
Both vehicles were occupied by only the drivers. Both drivers were injured in the crash and transported to local hospitals by ProMed Ambulance to be treated for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Vehicles and debris were removed from the scene by Baxter’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation. No further information, including names of the involved drivers, is being released at this time.
