On Saturday, March 17, 2012, around 6:30 a.m., Valley Traffic officers responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Glenoaks Boulevard and Mercer Street. The victim received multiple injuries and was pronounced dead by Los Angeles Fire Department Personnel. The victim was identified as 79-year-old Pacoima resident Virginia Ramirez.
Investigators believe a man driving a red 1998-2000 Nissan Frontier pick-up truck was traveling south on Glenoaks Boulevard at Mercer Street when the truck hit Ramirez, knocking her to the ground as she was in the process of walking west across Glenoaks Boulevard in an unmarked crosswalk. The driver was described as a male Hispanic between 35-45 years old.
While Ramirez was on the ground critically injured, a 1997-2001 Monte Carlo was traveling south on Glenoaks Boulevard and ran Ramirez over a second time. The driver was described as a female Hispanic between 25-35 years old.
Both drivers left the scene, failing to stop to render aid to the victim or identify themselves as required by law.
