Advisory

Flash Flood Watch in effect from 7 p.m. tonight (May 23rd) until 1 p.m. tomorrow (May 24th).

Per the National Weather Service, widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected today and Thursday. While there is a slight risk for severe wind or hail this afternoon and evening the main hazard during this time will likely be heavy rainfall which could be as highs as three inches in some locations. The tornado threat is low at this time however the heavy rainfall tonight could lead to flooding in both rural and urban areas...generally minor flooding.

Due to the potential rainfall amounts the National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a Flash Flood Watch for much of central and parts of southern Minnesota including Scott County which is in effect from 7:00 pm this evening, May 23rd, until 1:00 pm Thursday, May 24th.

The NWS is expecting that rainfall totals of two to three inches are likely through Thursday afternoon...with a few locations exceeding three inches. If this rainfall does occur I would expect this watch to change into a warning.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding or that localized flooding is possible in flood prone areas and includes the potential of rapidly rising streams and flooded ditches.

If you’re out and about during this rain event be watching for street flooding or small creeks and streams that might be flooding over roadways.
