PRESS RELEASE
May 24, 2012
The Thurmont Police Department was contacted by Melinda Cool, a Thurmont resident and mother of two children who will soon be taking their State of Maryland Driving test, looking for a location where they may safely practice parallel parking.
It was decided Colonel Gregory L. Eyler to establish a location for those about to take their driving test to practice parallel parking off the street and without the fear of other vehicles. The Thurmont Police Department has marked off a parallel parking space in the rear parking lot of the police station. This space has been placed along the curb next to the park, marked in florescence red paint. The space is 25 feet long and 8 feet wide, with a line marking 12 inches from the curb.
The Thurmont Police Department welcomes all those who wish to use this area for practice after 4 P.M. Monday through Friday and all day on Saturday, Sundays and holidays. Those using this parking space will need to provide their own cones or other poles or markers.
Col. Eyler and the Thurmont Police Department have provided this service to assist young drivers hone their skills as they begin their future in safe driving and hope that this will serve the residents of Thurmont as well as all residents of Northern Frederick County.
