The Palos Heights Police Department wants to inform its citizens about a scam e-mail distributed on 05/25/12. 
On 05/25/12, the Palos Heights PD was informed of a fictitious e-mail distributed to undisclosed recipients, on 05/25/12 at 8:31AM.
The e-mail falsely represents itself to have been sent from Pastor Freddie Steel of Life Church of Chicagoland, 6600 W 127th St, Palos Heights, IL 60463. In summary, the e-mail claims the Pastor was a victim of a crime in Madrid, Spain and requests financial assistance.
The Palos Heights PD has been in contact with Life Church this morning and have confirmed this e-mail to be fictitious. Pastor Steel is safe in the Chicagoland area.
Below is a copy of the e-mail in question. DO NOT send any money to the subject(s) in the e-mail, and DO NOT attempt to contact them. Please distribute this information to others as it is unknown at this time how many people received this fictitious e-mail.

I'm writing this with tears in my eyes,I and my family came down here to Spain,Madrid for a short vacation unfortunately we got mugged at the park of the hotel where we stayed,all cash,wallet,credit card and cell were stolen off us,but luckily for us we still have our passport back in our hotel room...We've been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all and our flight is leaving in few hours from now but we're having problems settling our hotel bills.
We're very sorry if we are inconveniencing you, but we have only very few people to run to now.
