Columbia Township Police Department continuing to investigate personal injury accident from Friday night.
On Friday, May 25th 2012 at 7:24 P.M., the Columbia Township Police Department, as well as the Columbia Township Fire Department/Rescue, were dispatched to a personal injury accident on Main St. near River St.
Officer Hudson responded, and determined a 50 year old male Brooklyn resident had crashed his moped while traveling northbound on Main Street, just North of River St. There were no other vehicles either involved in the accident, or that appeared to have caused the accident. Two separate witnesses advised the subject and moped were traveling northbound on Main St. when he lost control and crashed in the street.
The victim had abrasions to his upper and lower body, had sustained a head injury, and was losing blood from his head. Due to the serious head injuries, rescue personnel called for an airlift, and the victim was flown to the University of Michigan Hospital, where he was initially listed in serious condition. His condition has since been upgraded to stable.
The victim was not wearing a helmet (optional), and alcohol does appear to be a factor. Additionally, the victim’s driving privileges had been previously revoked, and he should not have been driving.
The accident remains under investigation, and any potential charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
