Overnight Thefts from Parked/Unlocked Vehicles
The Sheriff's Office wants to alert White River Township citizens in and near the Pebble Run housing subdivision (north-west corner of Morgantown Road and Fairview Road) that last night there were three reported incidents where a suspect or suspects entered a parked and unlocked vehicles and stole items from inside; there was one more reported incident in Pebble Run where a resident reported that someone had entered two vehicles in their driveway but the suspect(s) had not stolen anything noticeable. The incidents all occurred after dark/overnight.
The Sheriff's Office relies on citizens to report these incidents so that we can adjust manpower into these areas accordingly. Deputies will be increasing patrols in this and other neighboring subdivisions effective immediately.
We ask for your assistance by locking your parked vehicles, and immediately reporting suspicious activity by calling 911. If you see someone on foot walking around after dark who does not belong, please give us a call and let us come check out the individual to see if they belong in the community. Be sure not to scare them off by turning on lights or yelling that you have called the police; instead, call 911 and continue to watch them if possible until we can arrive to check them out.
These thefts from vehicles often involve electronics such as Ipads, Ipods, laptop computers, loose change, paper money, and other pawnable or tradeable goods. When possible, keep electronics or other items of value out of sight and behind a locked door. RECORD SERIAL NUMBERS for any items of value which you do routinely leave in the car so that in case they are stolen, we have a chance of recovering your property for you.
