CRIME UPDATE FOR MAY 1ST- MAY 26TH
Hello residents of San Clemente! Welcome to your new biweekly crime update. We will be posting information on a biweekly basis about crimes that have occurred throughout the city along with some reminders to help prevent you from becoming a victim. For reference, Repressible Crimes will include burglaries (including residential, commercial and vehicular), petty theft, grand theft, vandalism, and stolen vehicles. These are crimes that, for the most part, can be easily prevented.
The past four weeks there have been a total of 67 repressible crimes throughout the city.
The total breakdowns are as follows:
Grand thefts = 8 Commercial burglaries = 4
Petty thefts = 24 Vehicle burglaries = 6
Stolen vehicles = 1 Residential burglaries = 6
Vandalisms = 18
The areas where most crimes occurred, 29 in total, were from the north end of the city (i.e. Forester Ranch and Forester Highlands area), as well as the Talega area. These crimes were mainly theft related crimes of opportunity that can be prevented by taking a few extra steps to ensure the protection of your property.
As a friendly reminder, please be sure to follow these crime prevention tips to reduce your chance of becoming a victim of theft.
• ALWAYS LOCK YOUR DOORS, roll up all windows and take the keys with you when you leave your vehicle, even if you will be gone “just a minute.” Oftentimes, thieves go from car to car trying doors. Chances are if your doors are locked they will simply move on to the next car so as not to draw attention to themselves.
• Do not leave ANY valuables in your car (gifts, packages, purses, computers, electronic items, etc). Always take valuables with you.
• Park in open, well-lit, and populated areas near your destination. If possible, park in your garage or at least off the street. Avoid parking near large trucks, vans, dumpsters or other objects that obstruct visibility and provide hiding places for strangers.
• Should a theft occur, call the police immediately to report it. Vehicles and property should be described as accurately and as detailed as possible.
• Be sure that garages, doors and windows at your residence are secure and locked.
• Always keep personal belongings and valuables in sight or in your possession so the temptation to steal is reduced or eliminated.
Report any crimes or suspicious activity immediately to Sheriff’s Dispatch
