Sidewalk CPR Day is this Thursday, June 7th at the YMCA on Paseo Ranchero. Come join the Chula Vista Fire Department.
This Thursday, June 7 is the national event sponsored by the American Heart Association called “Sidewalk CPR Day”. In Chula Vista, the Chula Vista Fire Department will be handing out flyers to the public, and also providing CPR.
This is FREE to the public. Trainers and mannequins will be set up at the YMCA on Paseo Ranchero from 10 AM to 2 PM, teaching people how to use Hands-Only CPR, in approximately 60 seconds, in honor of National CPR Week (June 3 – 9). The American Heart Association calls on the community to learn how to give Hands-Only CPR because effective bystander CPR provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim's chance of survival, but only 32 percent of cardiac arrest victims get CPR from a bystander. With approximately 300,000 out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests occurring each year and 80 percent occurring at home, the life you save is most likely to be someone you love.
The American Heart Association has endorsed “Hands-Only CPR” as an effective treatment for adult cardiac arrest victims since 2008. Hands-Only CPR involves two simple steps:
· Call 9-1-1; and
· Push hard and fast on the center of the chest until professional help arrives.
In addition, people who watch a brief Hands-Only CPR training video are significantly more likely to attempt CPR, according to a recent study published in the association's scientific journal Circulation. For more information about CPR Week or to watch the Hands-Only CPR video, visit www.HandsOnlyCPR.org. There is also a free app for smart phones that can be downloaded at the following site: http://amr-sandiego.com.
Details for the event at South Bay YMCA can be found at www.southbay.ymca.org. The Chula Vista Firefighters Foundation will be providing lunch to those who participate in the short training at the YMCA.
