Santa Clarita Sheriff's Respond to Potential Hazmat Incident

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station deputies were called to Canyon Country Park - 17615 Soledad Canyon Road, Canyon Country to assist the Los Angeles County Fire Department with a potential hazmat incident.

The initial call to the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station indicated that several 4th grade students from Canyon Springs Community Elementary School were on a field trip when one of them found a balloon in the restroom. At some point, while the balloon was being handled, it popped and an unknown white substance covered some of the students.

Hazmat officials tested the substance while the students and staff were held and monitored as a precaution. No ill effects were exhibited by anyone exposed to the substance.

Officials have determined that the substance was flour and did not pose any health hazard.

The students are being taken back to the school where parents can pick them up.
