ASSAULT/HANDGUN ARREST GLEN BURNIE

On June 8, 2012, at approximately 8:07 p.m., officers from the Northern District responded to area near the Marley Station Mall located in the 7900 block of Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie for a possible subject armed with a handgun.

Upon arrival, officers learned that there was a second subject accompanying the armed individual. An officer working secondary employment at the mall encountered both subjects and attempted to escort them outside of the mall with assistance from mall security personnel. One subject, who was not cooperative, was handcuffed for his safety while the second subject being detained suddenly fled the mall and was seen running in a wooded area near a bike trail. Several minutes later, a K-9 officer in the area observed the suspect walking on Ritchie Highway near Norfolk Road. The suspect was taken into custody in a wooded area.

Further investigation revealed that a 19-year-old male victim was walking on the bike trail near the mall earlier when he was approached by two male subjects. One suspect displayed a handgun and began waiving it around before both subjects fled and were later observed near the mall. At that time, the victim contacted police. The victim was not injured during the incident. The handgun has not been recovered at this time and the investigation is ongoing. One suspect has been charged with Handgun on Person, First and Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment and Disorderly Conduct.

Suspect: Rodolfo A. Alvarenga, 20, of 7837 American Circle, Glen Burnie, Md
