Robbery Arrest
(Windsor Heights, IA) On June 19, 2012 Windsor Heights Police Department received information of an armed robbery occurring at the Kum & Go located at 7229 University Street in Windsor Heights. An employee reported at 10:00 PM a white male displaying a hand gun demanded money from the store clerk. After obtaining money from the store the male fled on foot and was last seen leaving the area to the east.
Officers responding to the incident located a suspicious vehicle east of Kum & Go driving without its headlamps on. The driver of the vehicle matched the description of the suspect fleeing Kum & Go and officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on this vehicle in the 1100 block of 66th Street. The driver of this vehicle failed to yield to an emergency vehicle and a short pursuit ensued. The driver lost control of his vehicle in the 900 block of 65th Street and was apprehended without incident.
Jeffrey Christopher McVey, 28 years old, of Hartford, IA was positively identified as the offender in the Kum & Go robbery and as the driver of the suspicious vehicle, a Silver Ford Focus. Upon searching the vehicle officers recovered a knife used in the robbery and money stolen from Kum & Go.
Officers do not believe McVey was in possession of a gun at the time of the robbery, but was found to be in possession of a knife. McVey was interviewed and charged with 1st Degree Robbery, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Felony Eluding, Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense, Reckless Driving, Speeding 20 mph +, Driving without Headlamps, Failure to Use Turn Signal, and Failure to Stop at Stop Sign.
McVey is being held in Polk County Jail on $42,100 bond.
