The Windsor Heights Police Department, with assistance from the West Des Moines Police Traffic Unit, the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Iowa State Medical Examiner, and the Polk County Attorney’s Office, have now concluded their joint investigation.

(Windsor Heights, IA) At approximately 5:00pm on June 10th, Windsor Heights Police and Fire/Rescue responded to a personal injury crash in the 6400 block of I-235 westbound that shut down westbound travel for approximately thirty minutes. The crash involved a Nissan Maxima and Ford Ranger pickup. Upon initial investigation, it was believed that a PT Cruiser sideswiped the Maxima which then drove the Maxima into the side of the Ranger truck and caused the Ranger to lose control and roll over. After further investigation and re-interview of several witnesses, the PT Cruiser was determined to not be directly involved in the crash.
On the morning of June 14th, the injured passenger of the Ranger pick-up, Anita Gummert, age 50 of Marshalltown, passed away. Pursuant to this death, this case remained under investigation.
