Advisory

weather conditions

State emergency officials as well as local officials are expressing caution and urging citizens to be particularly alert to the dangers existing at this time due to extremely dry weather conditions and high temperatures.

People should avoid excessive outdoor exposure and activities and drink plenty of fluids if it is necessary to be outside. Citizens are asked to remember to check frequently on elderly, young, and disabled individuals or those living alone. Do not forget outdoor pets and animals and provide plenty of shade and fresh water for them throughout the day. Be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke for people and animals.

Due to the dry weather conditions, citizens should be aware of fire hazards such as fireworks, lit cigarette butts, or smoldering coals from a camp fire and make certain that any fires are fully extinguished. The Kentucky Division of Forestry has issued a ban on campfires and fireworks throughout the Daniel Boone National Forest.

Be smart and safe this holiday weekend
