Two teens taken into custody for dirt bike thefts in Fruitport Township.
Two teens, ages 16 and 17, were taken into custody by Fruitport Township Police Department early last Friday morning (07/20/2012) for stealing dirt bikes from a residence in the 4600 block of East Fruitport Road in Fruitport Township.
Police responded to the area when a passerby reported seeing two male subjects pushing dirt bikes along the side of the road around 3 a.m.
Police found one of the male subjects with a dirt bike which was discovered to have been stolen that morning from a residence in the 4600 block of East Fruitport Road. The owner confirmed this was one of two dirt bikes missing from his residence that morning.
Police were initially unable to locate the second subject and dirt bike. Additional units from the Michigan State Police and Muskegon County Sheriff's Office responded to the area to assist in locating the second subject. A K-9 from the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office assisted with the search. Police were unable to locate the second subject, and the search was terminated.
Later that morning, police did have contact with the second subject and were able to recover the second stolen dirt bike.
The 16-year-old was lodged at the Muskegon County Juvenile Detention Facility, and the 17-year-old was lodged at the Muskegon County Jail.
No further information, including names of the involved parties, is being released by police at this time.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
