HIGHWAY 192 CLOSED DUE TO LARGE SINKHOLE; DETOUR AVAILABLE
The following information was provided in a press release by Cal Trans:
SANTA BARBARA -- A large, 3-foot diameter sinkhole that developed on Highway 192 (Sycamore Canyon Road) at Westmont Road yesterday evening has completely closed the roadway, Caltrans officials have announced.
A traffic detour is available along Sycamore Canyon Road, Alameda Padre Serra and Barker Pass Road. Electronic message signs have posted to advise motorists and the CHP is assisting with traffic control in the area.
An emergency contract is in place today to check underground utilities, replace a failed drainage culvert and rebuild this section of roadway. John Madonna Construction of San Luis Obispo is the prime contractor. The estimated time of reopening this section of Hwy. 192 is 1 ½ to 2 weeks.
Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
