Canyon Police to monitor Drought Contingency Plan
The City of Canyon has entered into Stage 2 of the Drought Contingency Plan. The plan calls for citizens to minimize water use by complying with Even/Odd water restrictions based on physical address number. The last digit of your address will determine the days in which you will be allowed to water your landscape. Watering will be allowed during the hours of 8:00 pm until 12:00 midnight and 12:00 midnight until 10:00 am on your designated watering days. Remember that at the stroke of midnight a new day begins. For example someone allowed to water on Tuesday must stop their watering before or at 12:00 midnight. After midnight those allowed to water on Wednesday takes effect and watering can begin. I highly recommend that sprinkler system control modules be adjusted to assure compliance with the watering schedule.
You probably are asking yourself why the police are sending out this notice. The Canyon Police Department will begin monitoring compliance with the watering schedule in accordance to the Drought Contingency Plan. The Police Department can enforce the plan 24/7 each day that the water restriction is in place. Police along with the Water Department employees will be issuing warnings in the form of door hangers. A data base has been set up to determine who has been warned or cited for violating the water restriction.
Citizens of Canyon who are provided water service should notify the public works department if a well is being used to irrigate with. Those individuals utilizing wells for irrigation should call 655-5011 to be exempt from the watering, i.e. irrigation, restriction. An inspection of the well could be required by city staff.
Let’s all do our part to assure compliance with this Water Contingency Plan. Cooler temperature and much needed rainfall will greatly help in assuring that our water supply is maintained and the wells can be cut back. Wells are running 24/7 to keep up with demand.
